How to File for Homestead Exemption in Florida
- Confirm you qualify. You must own the home and live in it as your permanent residence as of January 1 of the tax year.
- Find your county Property Appraiser. Use the county picker above to open your county's official page.
- Gather your documents. Florida driver license or ID, vehicle registration, voter registration or a recorded declaration of domicile, Social Security numbers for you and your spouse, and the deed or a recent tax bill.
- Apply online or in person. Most counties accept applications online. File by March 1 for that tax year and save your confirmation.
